The Parkside Rams football team entered their contest vs the Wicomico Indians with a 2-1 record. They faced a tough Indians defense that has allowed less than 7 points in each of their wins this season. The Rams were looking to prevent their city rival from getting a 3rd straight victory.

The Rams stuck with their winning formula in this game, running the football early and often as well as playing spectacular defense. The offensive line paved the way for the ground game in this one, with Sophomore running back Marcus Yarns carrying the ball 10 times for 105 yards and a score. Senior Destin Richardson totaled 15 carries for 100 yards as well. The run game set up the passing game for Parkside quarterback Andrew Smith. As he racked up an impressive 67 yards through the air with a touchdown and no interceptions.

I got the chance to sit down with Rams Senior offensive lineman Brandon Burkhardt to discuss the season thus far and their expectations going forward. He talked about the team’s mindset and family-like atmosphere. “As a team, we have a mentality that we are going to physically dominate the opponent each week”. I also asked him what motivates the team and gets them ready for games, “There’s a sense of enjoyment about going to battle because everyone knows that we have each others back”. When asked how the team was preparing for Kent Island and for a possible playoff run in the second half of the season, Burkhardt was optimistic in his answer. “The way I look at it, in order to be a good team you have to beat good teams…there is so much talent on this team but what it’s going to come down to is whether or not we can play a complete game in all 3 phases…we trust the process. We believe in what we do everyday. It’s just a matter of putting it all together”. We will see if the Rams can in fact put it all together on Friday as they take on the Kent Island Buccaneers in one of their toughest matchups of the season.
