On Wednesday, January 24th, The Indoor Track and Field team competed in the Bayside Championship. They had a successful day with girls finishing 5th and the boys finishing 3rd overall. They were crowned Bayside champions in four different events!

Destin Richardson had three 1st places in the 55m, 55m Hurdles, and 300m, giving the team 38 points! Richardson, a senior this year, had a few words to say about the meet and his coaches, he said, “The coaches really pushed him to practice hard to reach his goal of getting a new personal record and felt the team as a whole had a great week of practice.” Another athlete who took 1st in an event was Miyuki Schoyen. She placed 1st in High jump!

Other top performances included Michael Harmon tied for 2nd in high jump, Kara Osborne finished 3rd in Pole Vault, Ashley Thomas finished 3rd in the 55m Hurdles, Kaitlin Cashman finished 4th in shot put, and Ryan Townsend 4th in pole vault.

Other team relays that did well were the girls 4x400m relay Osbourne, Ziaria waters, Baby Jimmerson and Schoyen finished in 2nd place and the same girls also finished 3rd in the 4x200m relay. The boys 4x200m relay of Devian white, Alex Harmon, Dylan Mezick, and Richardson finished in 2nd place.

Zach Osbourne, The head coache had some positive things to say about the team and their placings, he said, “Even considering the long break we had because of the snow, the team worked very hard during the limited days of practice to get to where they are and what they have accomplished.” An assistant coach, Mitch Simpson, said “The team has came out strong, considering all the obstacles they had to overcome. They showed their strengths and went out and did what they needed to do to reach their goals.”

The track and field team have been doing well so far and hopefully they will be able to do as great at regionals!
