Parkside’s track team is strong this year, practicing and conditioning since the begging of winter for indoor and moving right into the outdoor spring season. So far in the 2018 season the team has had three meets. In the first meet of the season the Rams came out ready to run with both the girls and the boys placing first place, in the second meet the girls placed third as well as the boys and lastly in the third meet which was the Cambridge invitational meet that included many teams from around our conference, the girls placed sixth place while the boys got fifth.

Senior Nayel Oge and junior Destin Richardson are racking up tons of points for the boys teams, getting first place in many of the sprinting events. “Both of them are crazy fast” said senior and captain Kara Osbourn. Destin Richardson who does the the 50 meter hurdles has broken records and continuously gets first place for the event. Pole Vaulter Kara Osbourn is also doing exceptional this year in both her field events and her running events getting first in almost all of them. Four girls from the team are going to compete in the Penn Relays in Pennsylvania where college compete and even Olympians like Usain Bolt have competed before, the girls consist of Kara Osbourn, Miyuki Shoyen, Ziara Waters, and Baby Jimmerson. Head coach Zak Osbourn said “this years started off really strong, records have already been broken and that being said there should be a lot of good things to come in the future”.

“The team still has some work to do, we really need to work on our stamina, we’ve got the speed but now we just need to be able to keep it, especially for the long sprinters” said Kara Osbourn. Good luck to the runners as they take on the rest of the season, don’t forget to go and cheer on our rams at future meets!
